It's Who you're with....

This was a neighbourhood breakfast. You can see the Cedar Creek in the background across the street.
It's Who You’re with…

Life in Sanlan continues to provide us with friends, fun (exercise) and food for thought. We were back in Kincardine for 10 days while John’s Mum was ill and passed away. It was not expected to go that way and we are grieving and missing almost daily conversations with her about our travels and lives here. I realized after the funeral and when things were done there that I wanted to return “home.” The desire to get back to Sanlan and our now normal routines was strong. That says a lot about our lives here. Dorothy would have done the same I think…get back to the simple tasks of daily living.

We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of sympathy in the form of calls and visits, food, flowers, cards and donations by friends and family “up home” but also by friends here. It has struck me that we have made a successful transition into retired life, snowbird life, travelling life…whatever you want to call it.

"If things didn't change there wouldn't be any butterflies." That about sums it up. As we bike the Fort Fraser Trail from here to Bartow there are historical plaques and quotations along the way. The one above seems relevant right now.

We have been golfing and dining with the “Valley People” once a week. The Valley is a section of Sanlan that is mostly 5th Wheels and Motor Coaches but also Park Model Homes. We have become friends with Canadians and some Americans in this section of the Park mainly; and as well as golfing we find lots to do with them in large or small groups. You can be as busy as you want or as quiet as you want.

Of course it is not just new friends that are keeping our lives full but the communication and occasional visits from people we know in the “north.” We love it when we get together with friends from home down here. Here we are golfing and touring with Grant and Gisele, long time friends from Ontario. They have rented a place close to here for the month of March.

John and Linda, also long time friends were staying in Clearwater this week and joined us for kayaking and a bbq at Ft. De Soto. The visit was short but sweet!

Where technology meets nature....Apollo Beach Electrical Plant. We stopped here on the way to Ft. De Soto to see the Manatees that come into the warm water outfalls. We saw about 6 and lots of tarpon as well as other critters.

We finally made a trip over to Bok Tower, an historic monument with incredible gardens near Lake Wales about an hour from here.
Trailer living may not be for everyone. It is a small space but we are very happy. The Cedar Creeks is meeting all our needs. We leave Sanlan for this season on March 21st and will spend a few weeks touring Northern Florida and Georgia before meandering home to Kincardine. That will be when there is no sign of snow!
