Kerrville Texas

After leaving Van Horn at dawn we drove further away from the Rio Grande Valley and eventually the landscape became more lush and less desert-like.  It was a bit of a moonscape most of the way however.
Even as far as Kerrville we saw a few prickly pear and yucca plants.  The earth's crust if very rocky still but the scrubby landscape became more green and the shrubs got bigger.  At a rest stop the humidity and verdant landscape teased my nose.  This is not farm land however.  Herds of goats were prevalent!

We headed to the KOA at Kerrville but were sorely disappointed when we got there.  It felt really uncomfortable so we went back 2 miles to Buckhorn Lake Resort that we had passed at the exit.  Now this is more like it!  It is on Goat Creek,  just off Goat Road.  Go figure!  Today I saw more goats than I have ever seen in my life.

This is a lovely park...very clean and beautiful.  Many people winter here and we have seen many Ontario plates.  The trees are blossoming and the residents are having a great time!  A country band was jamming at the RV across the road for a couple of hours this afternoon.  Guess what?  They sounded very "country" but when we heard "Okee from Muskokee" we soon realized they were from Ontario.

It is nice to be all hooked up and get the dishes done and have a shower in our own home!  The weather is holding nicely and tomorrow we hope to get to the other side of Houston.  First San Antonio...a city of over a million that boasts the history of the Alamo and a famous river walk.  When I called about a campground there they said whatever you do don't try to get here between 3:30 and 6 p.m.  Traffic is horrendous.  So we are giving it a pass.  We are more anxious to get through Texas.  Houston is another nightmare for traffic so we may do the by pass which is longer but less stressful.  I-10 goes right through the middle of this huge city so we will detour I think.
