Old Baldy Hike

John's brother Ken and his wife Ann have been staying just down the road from us in a condo community in Tubac.  Their good friends Bev and Brian were here as well and we have had a great week with them.  It is so nice to share part of this adventure with other Kincardine natives.  And they have shared their  accommodations with us.  It was a nice change for John and I to hob knob over in Tubac in this gorgeous setting.  Their view of the mountains was very similar to ours but their high ceilings, beautiful decor and pool area gave us a nice reprieve from smaller quarters.  But their company was the best part!

One day we planned a hike and picnic up to nearby Wrightson Peak, part of the view we are becoming familiar with here in Amado or from Tubac.  The others agreed to try the Old Baldy hike with us.  We knew it might be a bit of a challenge but we were all willing to give it a go.  And no regrets all around.  The views were spectacular and despite wondering if we were ever going to reach the top the euphoric feeling of heading down was well worth it. We left in the morning and it took us 4 hours.  The picnic lunch in a gorgeous setting was a grand finale.

We saw many lizards and a few birds.  The sycamore trees were in full glory with their smooth white bark and leaves that had turned to bright yellow.  From a distance these canyons look barren but once hiking it is a totally different perspective.  I love the clean crisp air and deep blue sky.  The temperature is a bit cooler, by as much as 10 degrees when up from the valley.  The views of the valley make you feel as if you are sky high.
