Sedona

Sedona (Mars!)

We arrived at Rancho Sedona RV park by noon on Sunday, October 16th and have been in awe ever since. We had driven over here from Flagstaff a couple of times but now we are really getting into it.

Today we ran into a fellow from St. Louis and he had obviously never been here before. He said it was like being on Mars. I get what he is saying. The landscape is so different from anything I have ever experienced and of course there is a predominance of red.

And how about the vortex? What is the plural of vortex because there are actually supposed to be 4 of them here. Mystical and metaphysical experiences abound apparently and there all kinds of healing and psychic places here. A woman we met on the “Baldwin” hike claimed to have had a “vortex” experience years ago without even trying. She said there was a peaceful flow that came to her simply because she had an open mind. John asked her if marijuana was involved and she laughed saying no, but she is thinking of trying it now to help her back pain. She and her husband (probably 15 or more years older than us) visit Sedona often from Tuscon. They love the hikes.

Absorbing the views of the towering and majestic red rocks surrounding Sedona is going to take longer than 3 days. The shapes evoke a variety of images and they are aptly named; Cathedral Rock, Coffee Pot, Snoopy, Court House Rock and Bell rock to name a few. Changing day light has a dramatic effect on the colour. This is a hiker’s paradise and if we come back that will be our main occupation.

Chapel of the Holy Cross

We visited this famous rock with a beautiful chapel embedded in the top. Not only is the chapel itself gorgeous but the views from there are as well.

Tlaquepaque (t-locky-pocky) Arts and Craft Village

This is one of the most beautiful shopping areas I have ever visited. Sedona has more artists than any other place in the U.S. and many of them have set up shops here. Many pieces are worth thousands. We saw a statue of a stallion for $93,000! Rock chairs go for up to $5000. So we didn’t buy much but it was fun to window shop.
